tides resource

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn_ycVcyxlY

This video explains how tides work. Because it is made for a younger audience, it does a good job of simplifying very difficult information. The video starts out by giving  a defintion of a tide. The definition they go by is a tide is the rise and fall of the surface of the ocean due to the gravitational force of the sun and the moon on our earth. This concrete definiton sets the road map for what will be further developed as the movie goes on. The video then goes on to disscuss how gravity is a factor in tides. They state that the bigger the objects and closer they are to eachother makes a stronger gravitaional pull. The sun and the moon both play a part in making the tides, however the moon plays a bigger part. This is because the moon is twice as big as the sun. Tidal forces pull water sideways across the earth. This video did a good job or reiterating the key points of the tide and the moon.

  1. Sup girl, I love that you picked a very simple video. It was super easy to understand and it didnt frustrate or confuse me. One thing that your video had in common to mine was it talked about was how there were two high tides and two low tides a day, and how it was different every 6 hours. One thing that was different about our blogs was that your video talked about how the sun is related and how the pull of the moon is twice of the sun's pull. One question i have is, was that lady sure about her explanation bc it looked like she was reading off a card?
